DENMARK · 9 OCTOBER 2026 · FRIDAY
An afternoon arrival. An extraordinary world beneath the city. And a palace opening its doors after dark.
I landed in Copenhagen at 14:20 and made my way to 66 Guldsmeden. By evening, it was time to explore — and with Culture Night happening across the city, there was plenty to discover.
My flight from Manchester landed in Copenhagen at 14:20. From the airport I headed into Vesterbro, where 66 Guldsmeden would be my home for the weekend.
With daylight fading, I reached the park at Frederiksberg. Buildings and the tower were beginning to glow against the evening sky, before I headed underground.
↗ EXPLORE SØNDERMARKEN IN GOOGLE EARTHBeneath Søndermarken, the old underground reservoir had become something almost otherworldly: light, water, pillars and thick mist. The photographs barely capture how unusual it felt. There was a waiting time of 30 minutes and I was looking forward to an amazing light show. We eventually went down underground through the lit glass entrance. The Cisternerne was cold and damp with a large amount of mist. So much you couldn't see where you were going and at the end I had to follow a couple until I managed to find the way out!
↗ FIND CISTERNERNE IN GOOGLE EARTHNext was Frederiksberg Palace, lit up for Culture Night. There was music outside and a chance to see the chapel, ornate ceilings and historic rooms inside.
↗ EXPLORE FREDERIKSBERG PALACE IN GOOGLE EARTHMy last photograph of the evening was at Hooked Seafood Kitchen in Carlsberg Byen: a haddock burger, chips homemade tartare sauce and a coke after a busy first day.

After travelling and a full evening exploring, I was tired. I headed back to 66 Guldsmeden for a delicious hot chocolate and some sleep before another day in Copenhagen.
